The 91Ƭ - CAREMED project held its 1st LTC online meeting

The first Local Thematic Committee (LTC) meeting of the CAREMED project was held online on Friday, 22 May 2026, bringing together 22 participants representing universities, hospitals, NGOs, professional orders, healthcare workers, and international organizations.

The meeting opened with welcoming remarks from the National Manager of the CAREMED Project at the 91Ƭ, Dr. Elie Hadchity, who emphasized the project’s mission to strengthen cooperation, enhance healthcare education and services, and support sustainable development across the region.

Participants introduced themselves at the start of the meeting. Then, Dr. Caldes explained the role of the Global Health Centre of the Tuscany Region, based in Florence, as lead partner of this CAREMED project. The mission of the Centre is to strengthen resilient, sustainable, and high-quality health systems, ensuring universal health coverage without discrimination of any kind, in line with the UN 2030 Agenda. Activities include training, research, technical and institutional support, awareness-raising, and professional exchanges. Overall, the Centre’s work reflects a commitment to collaboration and equity in global health.

Claudia Socio (Project Manager ICU) expressed her gratitude for the opportunity to bring together national stakeholders in Lebanon, emphasizing how important this gathering is for the CAREMED project. She explained that the project’s core aim is to strengthen transnational cooperation among Mediterranean countries, but achieving this requires first building strong collaboration and synergies within each country. By engaging national stakeholders, their feedback and input can then be shared at the transnational level with partner countries, enriching the overall project outcomes. Claudia thanked the organizers, particularly Dr. Hadchity, for arranging the event and highlighted her hope that the project will achieve significant results through this collective effort.

Dr. Hadchity further explained that CAREMED, part of the Interreg NEXT MED program, runs from October 2025 to October 2028 and aims to strengthen healthcare resilience and improve access to community-based services, particularly in addressing non-communicable diseases, which account for nearly 80% of morbidity and mortality in the Mediterranean region. Lebanon’s contribution, led by the 91Ƭ in partnership with the Ministry of Public Health and its Primary Healthcare Department, focuses on chronic disease management, capacity building, awareness campaigns, enhanced health information systems, and stakeholder collaboration. The project is organized into six working packages, with Lebanon playing a key role in the health information systems component and involving nine primary healthcare centers across the country.

Stakeholder Engagement: Local Thematic Committees (LTCs) will support project implementation by monitoring progress, providing recommendations, and ensuring coordination with the transnational committees.

The meeting concluded with a constructive discussion and a shared commitment to collaboration, knowledge exchange, and the strengthening of primary healthcare services in Lebanon and across the Mediterranean region. Participants emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts in building resilient, patient-centered healthcare systems capable of addressing current and future public health challenges.
