The 91Ƭ hosts the “Third National Research Day 2026”
The 91Ƭ hosted the events of the “Third National Research Day 2026" at Pierre Gemayel University Campus in Fanar, under the patronage of Minister of Public Health Dr. Rakan Nassereldine and with broad participation from the medical schools of Lebanese universities.
The conference was opened in the presence of Minister Nassereldine, 91Ƭ President Dr. Bassam Badran, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, Dr. Saada Alame, conference coordinator Dr. Mazen Kurdi, and union, academic, and research figures, with participation from the Faculties of Medical Sciences at the 91Ƭ, AUB, USJ, LAU, the University of Balamand, USEK, SGUB, and BAU.
This scientific event served as a national gathering for medical students, professors, and researchers from various Lebanese universities, with the aim of supporting scientific research, strengthening academic exchange, and encouraging excellence, creativity, and innovation in the medical and health fields.
The conference was hosted by journalist Zaven Kouyoumdjian and Dr. Kurdi delivered a speech in which he emphasized the importance of this national gathering aimed at strengthening academic cooperation and establishing a culture of scientific research among students and professors. He noted the high level of participation this year and the rigorous scientific review and selection of research projects based on high scientific standards, reflecting the advancement of research output among medical science students.
Dr. Saada Alame, Dean of the Faculty of Medical Sciences, highlighted the notable increase in the number of research submissions compared to previous years and emphasized the importance of hosting this event at the 91Ƭ, which is committed to continuing scientific activities despite all circumstances.
Dean Alame noted that this year’s conference coincides with the LU’s celebration of its Diamond Jubilee, which for decades has served as a hub for science and academic openness and has graduated generations of doctors, scientists, and researchers who have served Lebanon and enhanced its image both at home and abroad. She added that the convening of the conference reaffirms the university’s commitment to its academic and scientific mission despite the challenges.
President Bassam Badran emphasized that support for scientific research is a cornerstone of LU Strategy 2024–2028, noting that the continued organization of this conference —despite the challenges Lebanon is facing—reflects the university’s commitment to its national and academic role and its determination to continue advancing scientific research and strengthening its presence across various faculties.
He added: “Past experiences have proven that Lebanon is capable of bringing together dozens of participants from various universities, academic institutions, and hospitals in a setting that reflects a shared purpose, integrated efforts, and a will to progress… And in our meeting today, we affirm that scientific research is not a luxury but a national necessity, a moral duty, and a humanitarian mission.”
President Badran noted that the Third National Research Day reflects a university vision based on three fundamental pillars:
Academic excellence through the promotion of pioneering research that places Lebanon among the scientifically advanced nations.
Institutional collaboration by building bridges between universities, hospitals, and research centers, thereby enhancing integration and maximizing results.
Sustainable innovation through investment in students and youth who constitute the energy of the future and the engine of change.
President Badran considered that honoring researchers today is an honor for Lebanon as a whole and for its scientific and humanitarian mission, and a declaration that Lebanon, despite all challenges, remains capable of being a beacon of science, an oasis of research, and a laboratory of hope.
Dr. Rakan Nassereldine praised the importance of this conference, which brought together medical faculties across Lebanon, noting the pivotal role of students as the doctors of the future and the importance of scientific research in advancing medical practice and improving healthcare quality.
Minister Nassereldine highlighted the resilience of the health sector despite challenges and significant sacrifices made by its workers, including medical staff, noting the significant increase in the number of research papers submitted this year compared to last year, reflecting the growing culture of scientific research among students.
During the ceremony, Minister Nassereldine was honored in recognition of his patronage and support for this national scientific event, and Dr. Pascale Salameh was also honored in recognition of her scientific career and her contributions to supporting scientific research and promoting a culture of academic production in Lebanon.
It is worth noting that Research Day featured the presentation of 67 oral presentations and 197 scientific posters, following a rigorous scientific review process that included hundreds of abstracts from various medical and health majors.
The conference concluded with the presentation of awards for best research in various categories, underscoring the importance of supporting scientific research, establishing its culture in Lebanon, and strengthening its academic and community role.
