The FPH - Branch 1 celebrates World Occupational Therapy Day 2026
The Department of Occupational Therapy at the Faculty of Public Health – Branch 1 celebrated World Occupational Therapy Day 2026 under the theme adopted by the World Federation of Occupational Therapists (WFOT): “Participation Matters.”
The event was planned and organized by Dr. Georgina Aziz, with the active involvement and preparation of Occupational Therapy students and the support of Ms. Rania Moukawem. It brought together Occupational Therapy professors, instructors, administrative staff, and students from various departments, in the presence and with the support of Dr. Samah Doumiati, Director of the Faculty, and Mrs. Amal Al Khatib, the Faculty’s General Secretary.
The celebration featured a series of educational and interactive activities highlighting the essential role of occupational therapy in everyday life. These included mental health awareness and management, sensory stimulation activities, accessibility awareness, proper posture and workstation ergonomics, safe lifting techniques, and the prevention of back and neck pain associated with poor posture and prolonged mobile phone use.
Attention and memory assessments were also conducted to raise awareness of cognitive changes and the importance of early screening for potential signs of Alzheimer's disease. Additional activities focused on cognitive stimulation and rehabilitation.
Through these initiatives, the Department highlighted the contribution of occupational therapy to promoting health, independence, autonomy, and participation in meaningful daily activities. The event also encouraged interdepartmental collaboration and strengthened awareness of the profession's vital role in enhancing individual and community well-being.
